The Area

Sunshine City is a modern business, shopping, and entertainment complex near Ikebukuro train station. This self-styled "city within a city" could fill up your entire day.

It includes the 60-story Sunshine 60 building, the World Import Mart and the Culture Hall with its own theater and museum. There is also an aquarium and an observatory with a rooftop outdoor-viewing platform. The Sunshine City Prince Hotel is the heart of the complex.

Within the Sunshine City Complex
  • Sunshine 60 - This 60-story building houses business offices plus an interesting mix of shops and restaurants.
  • Alpa Shopping Center - Enjoy the 220 specialty shops.
  • World Import Mart - Families will enjoy this entertainment mecca.
  • Convention Center Tokyo - Exhit halls and several meeting rooms
  • Sunshine International Aquarium - Visitors can spend hours observing the 37,000 exotic and sometimes rare fish, about 750 species.
  • Ancient Oriental Museum - A fine collection of pre-Islamic Middle Eastern art objects including pottery, glass and jewelry are featured here.
  • Sunshine Theater - Enjoy varieties of plays, musicals, and concerts.
Sightseeing Nearby
  • Metropolitan Art Space - This cultural complex is a pleasing integration of concert halls, theaters, exhibition centers and a green area of trees, shrubs and artificial waterfalls under a 100-ft. high atrium. (12-minute walk)
  • Rikkyo University - The leafy campus with its brick buildings and masses of ivy are a nice contrast to the downtown glitter. (15-minute walk)
  • Furukawa Garden - The garden and its main building which resembles a Scottish manor house, are works of British architect Josiah Conder. (20 minutes by car)
